New Year Cleansings

Asperging is the practice of sprinkling liquids upon a person or thing to spiritually cleanse it. You might also (gently) smack a person's body with herbs that have been dipped in cleansing liquids as an asperging. This type of cleansing offers some of the same benefits as a smoke cleanse.

Different herbs and waters have different cleansing properties, but here are a few to get you started.

Waters:
  • Ocean Water - collect ocean water on the first day of the year in a clean glass container. Use this water to cleanse your home and asperge yourself with a sprig of rosemary.
  • Moon Water - put a glass bowl of water out on the night of a full moon. The moon will charge this water and you can then use it for asperging.
  • Rain Water - collect rain and store it in a jar. This is a great water for cleansing and can be use to make infusions too.
  • Dew - dew isn't easy to collect, you don't get very much for a large amount of work, but it is an excellent cleansing water.
  • Rose of Jericho Water - we featured this water in our blog from last month. It can be used as a asperging water.

Herbs
  • Peppermint - make a peppermint infusion. When the water is cool, use a sprig of peppermint to asperge yourself or your home.
  • Pine - cut up bits of your holiday tree for asperging. You can use salted water or make an infusion with sprigs of your holiday tree.
  • Juniper and Yarrow - make an infusion of juniper and yarrow. This water can be used to cleanse yourself and your living space.
  • Rosemary - plan rosemary sprigs or rosemary infusions are great for asperging.

And so much more......what are your favorites?

Thank you for this Excellent info! Question- do you have a method of keeping collected water from growing algae? I've considered adding a few drops of bleach to my collected storm and river water to prevent that, but that seems the opposite of magical to me. 💧 ☮️
